Всяка година правя дарение на Уикипедия, колкото мога да си позволя. Защо?

Първо, харесва ми това, че не съм длъжен. Уикипедия е един огромен проект, движен от безброй съмишленици-доброволци. Целият този труд ми се предоставя безплатно, без ограничения, без абонамент, без регистрация. Първо ми дават труда си, без всякакви изисквания насреща, и след това ако искам мога да даря. Няма по-отворен и честен подход.

Второ, Уикипедия е един огромен проект, който не може да съществува без пари. Вярно е, че основната работа се върши от доброволци, на които не се плаща. Но това са 679 сървъра. Те струват пари. Интернет-връзката на 679 сървъра струва пари. Фондацията има само 95 постоянни служители, но те също разчитат на заплати и осигуровки. Знам какво е да отговаряш за прехраната на един куп семейства и да зависиш от сезонни и несигурни приходи.

И трето. Уикипедия олицетворява моето виждане за бъдещето – в Интернет и изобщо. С всяка изминала година обменът на информация става все по-лесен. Първо бяха факсовете, после е-мейлът, после ICQ, Skype, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook… Всякакви пречки пред свободния обмен постепенно отпадат. Музика, филми, книги се свалят свободно и хората им се наслаждават, някои плащат, други – не. Може да не се харесва на почитателите на чистия капитализъм, но според мен моделът на Уикипедия е устойчивият модел за предоставяне на информация в бъдеще – предоставяш безплатно, хората са доволни, някои плащат. Това е то.

Затова винаги се стремя да помагам на подобни проекти, и Уикипедия е на първо място сред тях.

Това не е “сбогом”. Защото той не вярваше в Бог. Преминал през всякакви религии и учения още в буйната си младост, Стив Джобс вярваше в Силата На Човешката Мисъл. В силата да промениш живота си – и заедно с него света, който те заобикаля.

Това със сигурност не е и “лека му пръст” или “мир на праха му”. Изобщо не мога да си представя този човек легнал на 2 метра под земята.

Може би най-добре пасва “вечна му памет”. Само че Стив си я получи още приживе. Стана човекът, когото дори и враговете му (а той имаше доста) ще помнят вечно. Вероятно ще се изучава в университетите. Вероятно ще му отдадат по-важно място в историята на цивилизацията, отколкото в момента му дават. Защо мисля така?

Най-напред, разбира се, заради персоналния компютър. Вече малцина помнят какви “неща” се наричаха компютри, преди мъничкият Apple ][ да завладее света и сърцата на хората. Тази смешна пишеща машинка с екран, от която сегашният ми телефон е 4000 пъти по-бърз, се появи в един свят, в който компютрите бяха само за учреждения като Пентагона, дори и в бизнеса само най-големите корпорации имаха компютър. И тогава основаната в гараж от един незавършил студент и един млад инженер фирма, реши да продава компютри на други (незавършили) студенти Революционното съвсем не беше самата машина - всъщност Apple не изобрети персоналния компютър - преди тях имаше още няколко такива машинки на други фирми - революционното беше решението на Стив Джобс да я продават на студентите. И за да я купуват студентите, те ги събраха и ги накараха да си кажат каква я искат. Първоначалният успех на Епъл се дължеше на изцяло новата идея за маркетинг и дизайн, идеология на Стив Джобс - технология в полза на хората, а не на капитала.

И това е следващата най-важна причина този човек да се изучава в университетите. Защото той обърна с главата надолу представата за това как се прави бизнес. Като например, че изследователското звено е по-важно от всички други, дори и от мениджмънта. Или че мулти-милионна (малко по-късно) компания може да продължава да използва похватите на партизанския маркетинг. Всъщност и мулти-милиардна (днес) компания също използва някои. А рекламата й винаги е сред най-оригиналните...

Третата причина е Windows Или по-точно графичният потребителски интерфейс с прозорци и мишка, които по-късно Microsoft откраднаха и нарекоха Windows. Преди това на екраните на компютрите гледахме само буквички! Днес вероятно само историците знаят, че прозорците всъщност не са изобретение на Apple - те бяха разработени в Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center), откъдето буквално ги подаряват на Стив Джобс заедно с куп други "безперспективни" според тях разработки, които прекратяват. Е, той явно е могъл да види перспективата в тях.

Четвъртата причина са mp3-kите. Всичкият бизнес по света се бореше с mp3-ките. Затвориха Napster, затвориха какви ли не сайтове, дори затвориха lyrics.ch - сайтът, на който имаше текстовете на всички песни. (Да, тогава беше само един). Какво стана, знаем всички - сега mp3-ки, клипове и текстове на песни вече има из целия интернет и никой не може да ги спре. Но тогава само един човек в големия бизнес виждаше перспектива в "мръсните mp3-ки". Човекът, когото Apple молеха да се върне, след като акционерите го бяха изхвърлили като куче няколко години преди това, и в резултат компанията беше пред фалит. Та този човек се върна с изцяло нова разработка за операционна система (новият MacOS X) и с идеята за mp3-плеър (iPod) и сайт към него (iTunes), където хората да могат да си купуват отделни песни по долар парчето. И най-невероятното беше, че те наистина започнаха да си ги купуват. Разбира се, Apple не изобретиха mp3-плеъра, те просто показаха къде е бизнесът...

Петата причина за мен е най-важна, и това е разбирането на Стив Джобс за живота. Този човек е мой герой. Всичко, което е постигнал, произхождайки от бедно семейство на приемни родители, всичко - е плод на собственото му виждане, и на вечното му правило "Следвай сърцето си!".

Стийв Джобс не е умрял нощес. Той победи смъртта със силата на ума си и финалът на видеото го показва съвсем ясно.

Уникален глас, уникална хармоника. И един прекрасен китарист в добавка. Това е Cold Chisel!
